Twin Bed to Bench How To:

First you must find a stable twin headboard and footboard.  For a bench redo you must use solid wood furniture!  It's very important that the bench is stable and can be used for a long time!

Now......Here is a pic of footboard cut and the stabilizing brackets in place....these are pallet sides we used for the brackets so they are hardwood and very sturdy....

The sides were attached by drilling a hole in the back of the headboard and attaching into the footboard piece.  There is a block added to the bottom that we cut out to go around the edge of the headboard so it fit snuggly.  Then we attached the bottom of the footboard there...you can see this in pic above....

Once this was complete a frame was attached all the way around, a center support was added and front corner braces were installed to ensure extra stability.  And then I added a piece of trim turned upside down so the fancy part was at the bottom :)

And then we painted the entire thing white.  But here is what it looked like with the pallet wood seat dry fit, sanded and ready for paint...I LOVE  the patina of the pallet wood!

Once the paint dried we reinstalled the dry fitted seat and screwed it down with galvanized screws using the previous nail holes in the center.

And what we have is a beautiful bench perfect for many years of either indoor or outdoor use!

She is distressed and sanded (we wouldn't want splinters in our bums... ;)  )

She's ready for many years of use with her beautiful distressed finish and upcycled charm! :)
